Ninety five photographers, thirty three more than last year, submitted photos for the fourth competition that captured images ranging from flowers to landscapes and wildlife to people enjoying the Montana outdoors.

The three contest winners are:

FIRST PLACE: Randy Williams of Missoula [Randy Williams took first place in the competition with his unique photo of a mountain lion and its reflection in the water. He received a Pentax Optio S45 Digital Camera and bag donated by Marsha Phillips and F-11 Photographic Supply in Bozeman.]

SECOND PLACE: William Faust of Whitehall [Second place went to Faust for his impressive photo of a Sandhill Crane and chick. Faust received a Canon Camera Bag donated by The Dark Room in Missoula.]

THIRD PLACE: David Williams of Great Falls [David Williams snapped a mesmerizing photo of 12 turkey vultures standing on a fence row with wings spread that took third place in the contest. For his prize-winning photo, Williams received a $50 gift certificate donated by Bozeman Camera Repair.]

HONORABLE MENTION AWARDS in this year’s photo contest are Michael Spencer of Bozeman [mountain goat] and Jim Huffied of White Sulphur Springs (flying sandhill cranes).

“MWF is thankful to all the photographers for participating in the contest and pleased with the increased interest by photographers,” said Jan Cronin, MWF’s photo contest coordinator. “The high caliber photos and outstanding quality of the images that these photographers selected made this years contest a real joy to sort and review but with so many quality entries, choosing the top three photos was a very tough job for our judges.”

Cronin said the annual photo contest is MWF’s way to recognize and share with others the remarkable outdoor opportunities Montana has to offer.“Thank you to all who submitted photos, and keep your camera handy next
time you are in the field,” stated Cronin, “Our next photography contest will kick off in September 2007.
